Bobon
Bobon, Northern Samar is a historic municipality covering 13,000 hectares across 18 barangays with a population of 25,964. Deeply rooted in Catholic devotion since embracing the Most Holy Name of Jesus as its titular name in 1697, the town features the historic Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, built of stone by Franciscan Missionaries in 1838 (completed in 1842) as both a place of worship and a refuge during Moro invasions, which was later restored following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in 1988. Culturally, Bobon honors Señor Sto. Niño through the vibrant Agta Festival, where participants showcase elaborate costumes, body paint, and rhythmic choreography. Nature lovers can hike about two hours from Barangay Duran to plunge into the clear waters of Binu Falls or visit Lulugayan Falls in Barangay Balat Balud. Renowned as a thriving food hub, Bobon is most famous for its signature delicacy Pinangat—made from young taro leaves, dried fish (dilis or tuyo), chili, and coconut milk wrapped and cooked in coconut leaves—alongside other local eats like Piniato and sizzling seafood.
